Well, it's not often i play, and I can't even remember the last time I played DayZ, but I'd suggest making so you spawn with no gear, and the basic can of beans, and a soda.
And also, up the zombie's hit power, if you haven't since last i was on. A weak zombie gives you no reason to be fearful of the dead.
Until I get my DayZ working right again, that's all i've got, as I'll be playing more often soon.
