Installation:

Using the old Revive installer (still working after Revive shutdown):

• Download the BF2 Revive installer.
• Extract BF2ReviveFULL.zip then run Setup.exe.
• Choose an install location then click Install.
• At the 'Completing the BattleField 2 - Battlelog.co Setup Wizard' screen ensure that the 'Enter license key' and 'Update PunkBuster now' options are checked then click Finish.
• In the 'Battlefield 2 :: Key Manager' window enter your BF2 key or click 'Random'. Afterwards click 'Apply' then 'Close'.
• Wait for PunkBuster to update. When you see the 'Finished with update.' messagebox click 'OK' and the install is complete.
• See the Launcher Options section below to enable online play.

An alternate method (missing Special Forces files):

Software used in this guide:

• An unrar utility like winrar or 7-Zip
• An image mounting software like Daemon Tools Lite

Game and patch files used in this guide:

• BF2 Game Files (password: PCGames-Download.NET) (see credits section and warning below)
• BF2 Patch 1.41
• BF2 Patch 1.5

Steps to install:

• Download the BF2 game files (see credits section below).
• Extract the rar.
• Mount itw-bf2d.B6T
• Install (run setup.exe on the mounted image)
  
  • The installer will ask for your BF2 and BF2:SF serials. Use your own or the following:
    
    • BF2: 4MNN-HS9L-WQMS-37V5-E7AK (see credits section below)
    • Special Forces: GFMV-XB4G-8E7N-CXEF-E886 (see credits section below)
• Download and install BF2 Patch 1.41
• Download and install BF2 Patch 1.5
• See the Launcher Options section below to enable online play.

Accounts:
You can (in theory) use your old EA account or create a new BF2Hub account.

• Launch BF2.
• At the Login dialog click 'Manage Accounts'
• To create a new BF2Hub account click 'Create Account'
• Accept the terms then enter your account information. You can reuse the name from your Revive account.
• Click 'Create Account', select the new account, and login.

Credits:
The Battlefield 2 main game install file and serials listed in this install method were found at the following site. The site uses aggressive adgate and malware popups so the link has been censored here.

• Download and install the BF2Hub Client. The options during install are up to your preference (I usually uncheck all options).
• Run the BF2Hub Client.
• Click the BF2Hub Client icon in your system tray (by the clock).
• Click 'Battlefield 2 on this computer'.
• Click 'Patch Selected'.
• When the 'Battlefield 2 on this computer' turns green (subtext should say something like: "(v1.5, Client and Server are BF2Hub-ready)" your game is patched and ready to play.
• Launch the game by running BF2.exe in your Battlefield2 install directory.
• At the login screen use your BF2Hub account to login. You can create a new BF2Hub account on the BF2Hub website or in-game at the login-screen by clicking 'Manage Accounts' then 'Create Account'.
  
  • You can safely remove BF2Hub from your startup programs. If you do, you'll need to launch BF2Hub manually before starting BF2 or you will not be able to login.

Playing on NRNS servers:
At the BF2 main screen click 'Multiplayer' in the top bar. Type 'NRNS' into the 'Server Name' field and press enter. If NRNS servers are not listed (make sure you have the 'Ranked' checkbox unchecked--our servers use a private ranking system) they can still be connected to via 'Connect to IP'. Current NRNS server status and IP information can be found on the NRNS homepage.


Playing on the NRNS bot server (mod installation steps, not actually required to play on bot servers, but if you have issues connecting to the bot servers refer to these steps):

To play on the NRNS bot server you need the BF2ALL64 mod:

• Download and install the mod  (Direct Link).
  
  • At the 'Choose Install Location' step the installer might find your BF2 install automatically. In either case the mod should be installed to '...\Battlefield 2\mods\bf2all64\'
• Launch BF2, find the NRNS bot server in the multiplayer list or join by IP (the bot server is a Co-op server so ensure 'Game Mode' is set to either 'All' or 'Co-op' to see the server in the list).
  • If you launch BF2 normally (ie: by running BF2.exe or clicking 'Play Battlefield 2' in BF2Hub) you need to ensure the 'Same Mod' option under 'Internet Filters' is unchecked to see the bot server in the list. When you go to join the server your BF2 should automatically restart into the BF2ALL64 mod and automatically load into the server.
  • You can also manually start BF2 into the BF2ALL64 mod by doing one of the following:
    • Use a shortcut to your BF2.exe with the '+modPath mods/bf2all64' parameter (the mod installer might have created one of these for you).
    • In the BF2Hub Client change the mod from 'Battlefield 2' to 'BF2ALL64'. Then click 'Play Battlefield 2'.

Yes. The game files are provided in the revive installer. If the revive installer is not working (let us know so we can modify the guide), or if you don't want to use the revive installer, you can still get the files from the 'BF2 Game Files' and patches links in the alternate method.
