Imo that's a good assumption to make with any shareware, but this seems ok. Just don't install the packaged bloatware. Steps I took:

@ the site: enter your spam email (because it'll probably be sold to spammers). Download the downloader. Copy the serial.
@ your computer: Run the downloader. Tell it you DO want VSDC. Tell it you DON'T want the bloatware. (It now downloads the VSDC installer). Install VSDC. Activate -> Activate. Paste serial. Seems to work.

I tested the screen recorder. Works well enough. Thanks for pointing this out. Looks like that site has all sorts of nice shareware freebies.
