Title: List of good software.
Post by: [NRNS]-(Fight-Men)-75- on October 29, 2016, 18:57:53 PM
Hello.

I decided to make a post about some usefull software for gaming and general use to have installed in your computers.
This way you will have maximum performance with the least amount of losses.

Antivirus: Avira Free or Bitdefender free. Both free, lightweight and will not nag you while you play. Both better than Avast, as this one was probably gonna be sugested.
My choice: Bitdefender Free. Why? This new version is magnificent.
If you need an extra layer of protection: Malwarebytes Anti Malware.

Optimization: Ccleaner. Will help you get rid of old files and junk. Carefull with the registry cleanup.
Defraggler. Like the name sugests, defrags your hard-drives for better performance.
Revo Uninstaller: Thoroughly removes installed applications. (Previous version missed a lot of registry entries, the new one is good)

Drivers: Driver Booster. Will install all of your drivers on your pc; personally, i never had an issue with this program.

Game boosters: DONT EVER USE THIS. All they do is hog RAM, and some turn off security features... You gain nothing.

For overclockers: MSI Afterburner, AMD Overdrive, RivaTuner.

Temperature monitoring: HW Monitor, Speedfan.

Game recording: OBS (Open Broadcaster Software), forget about fraps or bandicam.

Video editing: VideoPad (free, fairly simple to use), Lightworks (free, im still testing it, but always heard great things about it), Sony Vegas Pro (top of the line video editor, expensive AF though.)

Firewalls: Windows default is generally enough. But if you are more hardcore: Zone Alarm Free Firewall or Comodo Free Firewall.

For those who do online shopping: Sandboxie + virtual keyboard.
Forget about VPN software. Why? Rough explanation, VPN only makes you info go through another service provider, so if that dfferent service provider you are using gets compromised, your info will too. VPV is almost a trend nowadays.

Anything I missed, cover me.

Hope this helps.

I do not play too much these days. But origin kinda work for twich steaming. For Video Recording i use action low FPS drops. I personally suggest turning off anti-virus in Gaming. My Laptop currently Has 3 os. 1 [windows server 2016 Standard Edition]  dedicated for gaming. only Gaming Related s/w installed.

If you have good knowledge of server OS. Windows server 2012 works great for gaming. But you will Have to configure so much in it.

Turning off antivirus is a big no in my opinion.
This antivirus i sugested wont take away any FPS.

Action is a paid software, much like fraps or bandicam. Try obs, you have better performance, and no hits no the performance.

Yes, its a program running in the background, of course it will eat a bit of CPU power.
My own preference after all the testing is on OBS, it had the least cpu usage and fps drop.

Actually for people who arent 100% techies, driver booster will be just fine.
The only thing i dont trust in driver booster are the GPU drivers, those are always better to get at the manufacturer website. The rest it has never failed me :)

As i told you.it works great only for dedicated gaming OS. Turning off antivirus drops 5-10% cpu usage. Also significant memory the default windows defender consumes 90-100MB. Quick heal around 150-200MB. But it is recommended only if you are downloading 100% authorized s/w. The reason I stated server OS is you can have only necessary background services. which keeps your Ram usage low. I am Currently on Windows 10 OS not for Games. but no antivirus installed. But not a single virus in my system Since i Formatted.

Also action uses hardware acceleration which result in better performance. For me with when i record with action at 1080p my FPS locks at 60. as for price i think there is thing called torrent. :P :P. but it was 2-3 months before. as i literally dont have time for games. Studies and GF problems. :(

Depends on the AV software, and im sugesting this based on my testing. And ir the av is using 5-10% of CPU, then you need to choose a better one...
Current PCs come bundled with 4gb or more of RAM, so antivirus its not going to hit performance.

OBS has HW acceleration too ;)

Well, i wont sugest piracy on a public forum :P

Hope everything gets better with you man!

lol, Revo is on this week's HumbleBundle (https://www.humblebundle.com/happy-pc-software-bundle) in the $1 tier and Driver Booster Pro is in the 'beat the average' tier. I don't know anything about them other than what's been said in this topic. Just the irony of seeing them recommended here then 2 days later they're being sold at the lowest price they'll ever be (probably).  :P

I don't know about that, why they're at that price :P

What I know is that Revo was average at detecting, both programs and registry keys. Now its very good at it.

Driver booster is good for when you format your pc, just install it, run it and update drivers. After this, unninstall it.

Welcome to NRNS official website, mauricio :)

I remember how well Vigrx Plus (http://www.catholiccharitiesdallas.org/) works with the same name to you. 20 years ago, I talked with Italian nice person who's name is tadiori. Sorry, this is my very personal experience :D

Thanks, I'm going to give revo a try. I didn't read that many good reviews on it but if it's gotten better then I'll try it.
