How do you snipe?

The mil dots are just there as a "thing" and the range finder doesn't work, so My question is how do you guys snipe in this? just trial and error? eventually learn the distances? or am I missing something?

In bf3 snipe physics applies like large distance u have to aim above from the enemy head , if he is running u have to shoot before he reached to a certain point

Band eng. Hope u understand .

The point is I don't know how people say that I have shoot someone at 1000 mtrs etc

Yes mate I get that Im asking you something different what I want to know is how do you do it? Am I just reading the mil dots wrong or are they just there to make the scope look like a real one?
