I use "Any Video Converter" to convert my recorded videos for editing.
http://www.any-video-converter.com/products/for_video_free/
It can convert to nearly every codec you want.
It can also convert up to 5 videos at once. Depends on your PC specs but helpful if you have a lot of videos.

Windows Movie Maker...

Does easy deployment of your video to Youtube as well.

fraps videos are very heavy plus it drops your ingame FPS alot
i would recommend bandicam better than converting videos
fraps exchange 5 mins for 5 GB or more

I use nvidia's shadowplay. I haven't noticed any fps drop while recording (it can show the fps ingame).
The best thing it can record up to the last 20 minutes of your gameplay, so if you had an awesome shot within the past 20 minutes you can save the last 20 minutes as a video. Otherwise it's just running in the background.
You also record unlimited if you record manually.
It uses the H.264 codec which is very efficient in quality/filesize and you can record in 30fps or 60fps.
It's free, but you need a newer video card of the GTX series (600,700,800,900).
If you haven't an nvidia card, then bandicam is also a good choice or MSI Afterburner (but i've not used it yet).
