Battlefield 2 / BF2 Installation and connection Guide (BF2Hub)
« on: October 27, 2017, 18:14:33 PM »
Installation:

Using the old Revive installer (still working after Revive shutdown):
Screenshots
  • Download the BF2 Revive installer.
  • Extract BF2ReviveFULL.zip then run Setup.exe.
  • Choose an install location then click Install.
  • At the 'Completing the BattleField 2 - Battlelog.co Setup Wizard' screen ensure that the 'Enter license key' and 'Update PunkBuster now' options are checked then click Finish.
  • In the 'Battlefield 2 :: Key Manager' window enter your BF2 key or click 'Random'. Afterwards click 'Apply' then 'Close'.
  • Wait for PunkBuster to update. When you see the 'Finished with update.' messagebox click 'OK' and the install is complete.
  • See the Launcher Options section below to enable online play.

An alternate method (missing Special Forces files):

Launcher options:
BF2Hub:
Screenshots
  • Download and install the BF2Hub Client. The options during install are up to your preference (I usually uncheck all options).
  • Run the BF2Hub Client.
  • Click the BF2Hub Client icon in your system tray (by the clock).
  • Click 'Battlefield 2 on this computer'.
  • Click 'Patch Selected'.
  • When the 'Battlefield 2 on this computer' turns green (subtext should say something like: "(v1.5, Client and Server are BF2Hub-ready)" your game is patched and ready to play.
  • Launch the game by running BF2.exe in your Battlefield2 install directory.
  • At the login screen use your BF2Hub account to login. You can create a new BF2Hub account on the BF2Hub website or in-game at the login-screen by clicking 'Manage Accounts' then 'Create Account'.
    • You can safely remove BF2Hub from your startup programs. If you do, you'll need to launch BF2Hub manually before starting BF2 or you will not be able to login.

Playing on NRNS servers:
At the BF2 main screen click 'Multiplayer' in the top bar. Type 'NRNS' into the 'Server Name' field and press enter. If NRNS servers are not listed (make sure you have the 'Ranked' checkbox unchecked--our servers use a private ranking system) they can still be connected to via 'Connect to IP'. Current NRNS server status and IP information can be found on the NRNS homepage.

Playing on the NRNS bot server (mod installation steps, not actually required to play on bot servers, but if you have issues connecting to the bot servers refer to these steps):

Global Gaming Chit Chat / Killing Floor free on HumbleBundle
« on: June 22, 2017, 23:38:21 PM »
HumbleBundle is giving killing floor away for free for the next day and a half.

https://www.humblebundle.com/store/killing-floor

Might be a good time to return to hosting it. There's some great server mods out now that allow the players to choose the mode/difficulty/map they want to play.

Rust / Rust in the Humble Bundle (Again: Jan, 2017)
« on: August 10, 2016, 00:01:05 AM »
Just spreading the info. Rust (among others) is in the current Humble Bundle for the beat the average price (currently $4.88).

Can get the bundle of 6 games plus the Steam Rust version (which is required for playing on the NRNS Rust server?), support charity, lower price than Rust's historical lowest, etc.

Rust / Kill command not working anymore
« on: October 05, 2015, 04:39:03 AM »
Howdy all.

Seems like the kill command (F1>console>kill) is not working fully anymore (at least for me). In my testing the kill command works in 2 ways:
  • When you use it while alive it results in you being 'downed' or 'wounded'
  • When you use it while 'downed' it results in you dying and presenting you with the respawn menu.

Lately the second kill hasn't been working (ie, you can't kill yourself from being downed) and since you can't do anything else while downed, except turn the camera very slowly, you just stay that way forever.

A few days ago when I walked over a snap trap I was downed and couldn't kill myself. About a day later (irl time) I was able to get Rust setup on a separate computer, find myself, and bash my own head in.  ;)
This time even that's not an option as I'm downed in the middle of my own house. ::)

Has the kill command been altered? Or is something going on with the server (maybe a restart is all that's needed, can you even do that in rust... idk)? Is anyone else experiencing this issue? Pro tip... don't test it from the center of your fortress if you don't know your lock codes ...  ::)

Technical Support - Games / BF2 crash at profile screen
« on: August 22, 2015, 00:34:09 AM »
Hello all. Hoping someone has some insight or ideas to help solve this problem.

I recently installed BF2 from scratch:
  • Installed BF2 base
  • Patched to 1.41
  • Patched to 1.5
  • Extracted the 'Revive BF2 Launcher ONLY' into my BF2 main folder
  • Ran BF2 through the battlelog launcher, couldn't retrieve my old profile or create a new one (battlelog mentions that their launcher has issues with that and that we have to create profiles manually).
  • Created a profile using ghostcall's steps.
  • Ran BF2 through the battlelog launcher, BF2 crashed just as it got to the 'choose profile' list with the below error message.
  • Ran BF2 via the normal BF2.exe. It loaded fine, showed my profile in the 'choose profile' list but couldn't connect to the login server.

If I have no profile (except Default) the game loads fine from the launcher... I just can't create a profile and join multiplayer (singleplayer works fine). If I have a profile the game crashes at the profile screen (unless I launch the game via the normal BF2.exe).

This is the error message displayed:

Does anyone have any ideas about what's causing this issue or see any steps I've missed?  :(

Global Gaming Chit Chat / Steam Coupon: 10% off Stronghold Crusader 2
« on: June 21, 2015, 21:14:38 PM »
I have a Steam Coupon for 10% off Stronghold Crusader 2. I will not use it. I do not want it. I do not want anything for it.

It says it's tradable. I don't know anything about steam trading but if anyone wants the coupon and knows how to trade for it let me know and it's yours, free.

Coupon has expired. If a mod could delete this topic I'd be grateful.
