NRNS hosts a CoD:MW2 server via X Labs. To play on our server you'll need the game and iw4x files.

X Labs hosts a good install guide here: https://xlabs.dev/support_iw4x_client.html If you already have the game files and just need the iw4x files skip to the second install method.

Start the game by running iw4x.exe. The NRNS server should be listed in the server browser.

To join the NRNS Discord server click an NRNS Discord invite link, accept the invite, and create an account if you don't have one already. Screenshots here. If you are an NRNS member you will need to let us know your Discord name so we can add you as a member.

What is Discord?

• Discord is a chat platform like Teamspeak and Ventrilo with heavy emphasis on text-based group chat. Discord advertises itself as being an "All-in-one voice and text chat for gamers that's free, secure, and works on both your desktop and phone." Discord can also be used without running a separate client by using it directly in a web browser.

Creating a Discord account.

• It's important that you create an actual Discord account (for example by registering  or by verifying your existing temporary account by email). Every time you connect to Discord and enter a display name Discord creates a new temporary account for you. These temporary accounts are not automatically assigned to the member group (they're also not actually temporary since they stick around forever, even if you only use them once).

How to find your Discord name.

• Your Discord name is displayed at the bottom left of the discord window (the 4-digit number is a part of the Discord name that can uniquely identify users who use the same name). If you cannot see your full name or do not know what to copy just go to your 'My Account' or 'Profile' screen and copy the 'USERNAME' field. Screenshots here.

  • Click the settings cog in the bottom left near your username.
  • Click 'My Account' then 'Edit'.
  • Enter your new username and current password then click 'Save'.
    
    • Note you can also set your avatar here.

You can change your display name for each server.

• This will only affect your display name in the Discord server you set it for. The NRNS Discord server prevents public users from changing their display name (but you can request a name change from a Discord admin).

NRNS hosts a Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 (MW3) server via the Plutonium project.

The Plutonium project has an excellent MW3 installation guide posted on their forums.



Summary of Installation Steps (for more detail and pictures see the linked installation guide above):

• Register for a Plutonium account. You will use your Plutonium account credentials to login when launching the game.
• Install MW3: Any MW3 install will probably work but the method(s) below have been used successfully.
  
  • Steam (Free, 14GB):
    • Launch Steam.
    • Navigate to Library -> Tools (hover over Library, click Tools).
    • Install Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 - Dedicated Server
    • Run the MW3 server through Steam to allow it to perform first time setup.
    • Close the server window.
• Install Plutonium:
  
  • Download the Plutonium Updater to your /steamapps/common/Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3/ folder.
  • Run the updater (make sure you allow both PU.exe and Updating_PU.exe through any antivirus/firewall/etc.)
  • Enter your Plutonium Login Credentials and click 'Login'.
  • Allow the updater to update if needed.
  • When the updater is finished click the green button in the lower right corner to start Plutonium IW5.
• You can find the NRNS server ("NRNS #1 EU TDM") in the server browser list.
• To launch MW3 again run PU.exe, wait for the update (if any), and click the green button in the lower right of the updater window.

Launch the game via Steam.

• Type your character name into the Name field.
• Type 'NRNS' into the Server Filter field.
• The NRNS server should show in the list. If not you can connect via IP by clicking 'Connect by IP' with IP address 192.95.55.248 and port 3727.
  
  • To add the server to favorites: Right click the server in the list and click add to favorites. Once you've connected the server will also show in the History tab.
• Settings can be accessed via the cog icon. Not all settings are accessible/savable from within the game so it's best to change them from this menu.
  
  • Be sure to customize the graphics options to your liking in the Graphics tab (the default resolution is 1024x768).
  • Check out the keybinds tab for a list of controls (and leave it open for quick reference if you want).
  • Click the save button to save your settings.
• When finished with settings select the NRNS server in the list and click Connect.
