i thought movin was in this band

motherboards wont give you a boost in gaming , it doesnt matter as long as you wont overclock , which you cant in your i3. just pick what ever you like it wont be any diff

5
I did my own benchmarks and my results were different all tho I will always admit intel has a better single core performance   I won't share this benchmarks. Why? Because from ac unity to crisis 3 on 4k config . Those are gpu bounded games and the frame rate are from 5 to 8 more fps,  dual core no matter how good still a dual core o.O , in case you wonder the benchmarks I made were . Sony vegas,  cinebench , valley , fire strike , ac unity , bf4 , the witcher 3 and last but not least 3D mark. And it's always a few fps to a max of 10. Dual sli gtx 980 on these.  Stock speed and overclocked.  Im not putting in doubt what this link says but I have done it o.o

6
Not really squirrel this is a common statement , I my self put that into test on my shop, the i3 and the fx performed about the same on stock , of course the intel will have better single core performance but that's only really where it lost now in the real world honestly who cares about benchmarks?  Gaining a few extra performance that probably your eyes won't even notice won't make you say oh I should had pick intel over amd. I still regret moving from an fx 8350 with my formula mobo to an i7 and I gained 5 fps in gaming . I mean most games aren't cpu bounded. All tho this is my opinion I don't pick a brand because it's name

7
go for the h97 , newer heatsink design , the usual Japanese solid capacitors they are a well probed product , they interface is user friendly and it performs well , the i3 wont let you down in some currents games due to the fact most of them wont use more than 2 cores , anything from lest say idk bf4 frostbite engine 3 below the, i3 going to be smooth on any game thanks to it single core performance , all tho in future games  and some current games like farcry4 the 2 cores wont even start the games in some scenarios , games now starting to be more cpu demanding , more cores = more performance with the upcoming dirext 12 and stuff, hyperthreating its just a smart queue engine that allows it to perform well even to the fact its dual core , but it doesn't make it 4 core sadly , intel at this price range of the i3 doesn't have a mid range cpu like amd, i always recommend the fx series to intel  i3. now if you plan on upgrading to i5 or i7 in the future , dont ignore amd , i made a mistake upgrading from an amd fx 8350 8 core to an i7 3770k and just gained 5 fps in games lol. but as a pc enthusiast i have to say both companies do great on their business , no reason to pick one up because of the name or branding.

so if you still havent build this yet , check out the amd fx 6300 its about same price as intel it features 6 cores , a 3.5 ghz stock speed , turbo to 4.0 , it is unlocked , overclocks well and it performs just a bit less than intel in single core performance . but you wont notice

8
oh my bad i got into the argue about the 13 overclocking i didnt even advice about mobo lol silly me ,

well H81 or B85 this motherboards will support some new features in some way or another such as native display port, new integrated graphics but there are some core differences between the H81 and B85 variants in much the same way as there were differences between the old H61 and B75 chipsets.

if you have the money go for the B85, has more expansion ports that the H81, but if you want a cheaper motherboard the H81 is your choice, both work in the same way.

like he said , also note that the on board graphics on the i3 are decent but wont take you too far , between gigabyte and asus from exp i pick the gigabyte , they are durable they feature japanese capasitors and have and it has a nice 6 +2 power desing , you wont need to worry about getting enough voltage on your system or over voltage. Asus is a really good board too but they are better making high end gaming mobos lol,

Ok just to clear things up. Unless your intel CPU has a K behind the name, you WON'T be able to overclock it enough to make ANY difference. Going with a Z type board would be overkill.

I wouldn't recommend spending more than 2/3rd of what you spent on your CPU for your motherboard. Whatever fits within that budget will do just fine (as long as it's socket 1150)

OH! and CoD Ghosts will REFUSE to run if you have less than 6GB of RAM (I wouldn't recommend playing this game at all btw), and I highly doubt watch_dogs will run on a GTS450.
And last but not least, the MINIMUM requirement for AC:Unity is a GTX680/770!

+1 ^keep this in mind aswell

hey i am not a sir just so you know , and you bringing google up makes me lol , Not a single mobo with either OC genie , Afterburner , intel control center , ect... will give you a significant boost on the clock speed and this can lead to harm on the components , i been working with computers for 6 yeah im pretty sure of what im saying , any enthusiast grade for an i3 is overkill , If only IF they is plans on the future to add another gpu and a better cpu like i5 or i7 i would pick a z97 , i stand where i stand you have your arguments i wont complain. but like you said im tired of people this and that , i deal with that kind of situations everyday not to even mention intel vs amd zzzz. as far as i know a basic mobo is going to be as good as a gaming mobo in everyway with an i3 and im done here . this is my advice

10
Hey, im here to give my experience to someone who needed, dont be alarmed. I dont know how much he can spend, so i give a setup of what he can get holding the same processor but  upgrading the mobo and other components. Thinking for the future. Why "Gamer", because have better quality mosfets, better quality capacitators, better quality transistors. Why "Gamer", because he is going to play with. For the computers, gaming means high work above the sun and need better components, of course If you dont want to waste money every 2 years. And please, if you dont have the knowledge to OC an i3, read some books, pdf or datagrams, dosn't mean CAN'T be overclocked. He can't afford that mobo?, we can afford always an AMD! ^.^

maybe you are the one who should read books , go ahead and try to overclock an i3 4160, again IT HAS LOCKED MULTIPLIER , it means it is locked , the multiplier lock is to prevent the consumer to overclock the cpu , of course the gaming branded mobos are better but its nost of the times just a name ( gigabyte g1 sniper comes to mind or msi gaming mobos) and for low end cpus it doesnt matter the whole work load wont affect the mobo the heat produced by an i3 is low since the power consumption is low. i work with pcs for living i build i overclock i know what im saying, his i3 cant be overclocked end. if you like try to do it

In my opinion, spend 90€ for a gaming mobo its right, why?, because the way to have a good pc its to have it useful for a looong time, with the GA-Z97-HD3, first he can use the i3 processor, he can overclock the I3 4160 to 4.0Ghz easily without temp problems and stable, he can improve at any time to i5 and i7, and alot more. If he is planning to dont spend much for the moment, stay in Socket 1150 is the best chance. Be the way, AMD FX Series FX-6300 needs a mobo AMD3+. My opinions are based on actual games and the future. Lets wait an answer.

EDIT: He is asking for a mobo option, not processor, (Maybe he want to improve the mobo for any time he can invest in a better Intel processor.)

you cannot overclock an i3 -.- , they have locked multiplier. intel overclockable cpus are those that end  iX-XXXXK for example my i7 4770K, only 1st generation i3 were overclockable with hacked bios to unlock temps and voltages , the lga 1150 on the i3 is not for overclocking , why would you buy a gaming branded z97 mobo for something you cant achive? not to be offensive or anything but before you suggest be sure , oh and btw , upgrading intel its a cost , not everyone have that kind of money to upgrade from time to time , a bang for the buck pc if well build will last for years. sadly dual core processors are going to be irrelevant soon since direct 12 and newer games use more than 4 cores

:HEY
I have had an NVidia GeForce GTS450 for 3 yrs but with G41M and CORE 2 DUO 1.8ghz (n i call myself a gamer.  :P ..played only COD mw MP).
Had a lot of issues with the g card but all fixed now .downloade...n desperate for gaming >>NOW... watch dogs ,cod(adv warfare, ghosts),max payne 3,MOH (warfighter),FAR CRY 4,ASSASINS CREED UNITY,Crysis 3 ,Dead Rising 3 ,Dead Space 3 ,GTA,LA Noire,Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor,Need for Speed Rivals ETC

Operating System: win7
processor : CORE I3 4160,,3.60 GHz,,LGA1150 ( will purchase @rs 7300)
G CARD : ASUS NVIDIA GTS450 1GB DDR5
RAM : 4GB ddr2 (i guess ll have 2 purchase ddr3)
hd :1tb WD

MOTHERBOARD OPTIONS:

gigabyte/asus
B85 M D3H (or other b85 variants)
H87 M D3H (or other H87 variants)
H81 also an option ,but i can STRETCH till B85 /H87(@ BUDGET)

or any OTHER if u know.
ty

First of all for an i3 , dont pick a z97 motherboard , they are made for overclocking the i5 series they are compatible but its overkill unless you want to pay for a gaming branded mobo for a low end cpu like the i3 on intel side , second Farcry 4 needs at least a 4 core processor , the i3 is a dual core with hyper threating but doesnt work on it as far as i know , tried on the pentium and i3 game didnt load up , now what to keep in mind is an i3 wont need an expensive motherboard to run in , its a low power cpu wont produce alot of heat so any mobo can do the trick , if you havent build this yet , i recomend you an amd fx 6300 , cost less than the i3 has 6 physical cores and will run you throu anything
